Juicing and detoxing to aid weight loss has become a fashionable trend. Athletes, celebs, your fitness instructor, everyone seems to be doing it and talking about it but what is the best way to lose weight long term? I'm sure you've tried it too or thought about doing it at some point but do we fully understand why we are doing it and the real benefits of detoxing? 

Body Cleanse

The liver, kidneys, lungs, lymphatic system and colon are our main cleansing organs and help to eliminate a number or toxic chemicals and free radicals from our body. Unfortunately the types of processed, packaged, chemical laden foods, refined sugars, caffeine, sugary drinks and alcohol that we put into our bodies regularly reduce the body's ability to work efficiently and over time put a significant amount of strain on the body. We are overfed and undernourished.

Healthy Digestion

detox05-320x240.jpgAs a result we find ourselves, and our digestive systems, 'stressed' and the body is generally in an over acidic state which acts like a wall reducing the amount of goodness we actually absorb from all food consumed. We can detox through diet alone by increasing our water intake and eating more natural, whole foods, fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds and whole grains. We call this clean eating. The idea behind juice detox diets is to allow the body a day off. Your digestive system needs a well-deserved break without having to follow juice diets for days or weeks on end. You can still benefit from a single juice day, one or two times a month. This is realistic in today's busy lifestyle and certainly achievable.

Juice Recipes

Two of Amy's favourite juice recipes are the Green Machine and Supercharged Breakfast Magic. Learn how to make them below.

The Green Machine

Makes 2 portions.

  • 1 cup coconut water
  • Handful spinach
  • ½ cucumber
  • ½ courgette
  • ½ carrot
  • ½ banana
  • Juice from ½ lemon
  • ½ inch grated ginger
  • 1 kiwi fruit
  • Pinch of parsley
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 scoop wheatgrass
  • Handful of ice cubes

Blend all ingredients together and enjoy!

Supercharged Breakfast Magic

Makes 2 portions.

  • 150ml almond milk
  • 1 banana
  • 2 medjool dates
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 6 almonds
  • 6 walnuts

Blend all ingredients together and enjoy!


detox01-320x240.jpgThe best purchase you could make would be a NutriBullet, or equivalent, as it blends all ingredients without losing any of the fibre, with the result still being a smooth delicious blend. Another fab purchase I can recommend would be a Citrus Zinger. These are water infusing bottles and can liven up plain water if you struggle to hit your daily target and help to eliminate the consumption of sugary shop bought fruit juices. 100% natural, no added sugar and kids love them too!

Optimise your body

You will probably find that when you juice foods the total caloric intake is much reduced which also makes it an ideal addition to The Camp as part of a healthy balanced diet without reducing or losing any key nutrients. After a mini cleanse at The Camp you will find your body operating at optimum. The body will be better hydrated and able to absorb more nutrients from foods consumed therefore you will have a higher functioning metabolism so you keep benefiting even when you get home.
